How We Edit a Messy First-Draft Resume (A Real Pass)
The draft we see most
Name in all caps. Objective: seeking a challenging position in a reputed organization. Education with board percentages down to class ten. Skills: MS Office, leadership, hardworking. Experience: “responsible for handling customers.” That draft is not a moral failure. It is what school templates taught. The edit is mechanical.
Pass one: delete
Remove the objective. Remove the declaration. Remove hobbies unless they are genuinely relevant (a football coach applying to a sports academy can keep it). Remove a photo unless the country or form requires it. You just gained a third of a page.
Pass two: dates and titles
Every job needs employer, title, start, end. Month and year is enough. If you were “team member” on paper but you closed the till, keep the official title and put the till in a bullet. Do not promote yourself to manager in the PDF.
Pass three: bullets
Take each “responsible for” line and ask what a camera would have seen. Then write verb + object + tool. Two to five bullets per job. Older jobs get one line. If you cannot remember a number, use frequency: daily, weekly, a queue that ran all Saturday.
Pass four: skills and summary
Skills become a short grouped list from the bullets, not a second copy of your personality. Summary is two sentences written last, naming the job family and one proof point already on the page. Then export and read it on a phone. If you have to pinch-zoom, cut more.
You can do this pass inside the MineResume editor. The template is the easy part. The cuts are the work.
